If you prefer calmer, cleaner city visits or are sensitive to loud noises, crowds, or fireworks, avoid Valencia during the peak days (roughly March 14–19, especially March 19) and consider visiting after the festival. The festival runs across weeks in early–mid March and many events and tents may be present for several days prior.
Check the official programme (visitvalencia.com) for mascletá and fireworks schedules; arrive early for good spots. Expect many streets closed and public transport reroutes — walking is often faster. Book accommodation well ahead and factor much higher prices around the main burnings. Bring earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones for sleep and crowded areas.
Visit smaller neighbourhood fallas (pueblos and barrios) rather than the busiest central zones (Ruzafa, Plaza del Ayuntamiento) to see excellent monuments with fewer people. Go to daytime displays for close-up viewing; nighttime lighting shows add atmosphere. Consider the Fallas Museum to see the best ninots if you want the art without festival chaos.
Expect constant fireworks and loud mascletás — protect your hearing and avoid bringing pets (they’re stressed by noise). Watch your belongings in crowded areas and be cautious around people using fireworks. Avoid renting balconies for mascletás unless you trust the provider; crowds and heat can make standing-room viewing uncomfortable.
Many locals belong to ‘comisiones falleras’ (falla groups) and some events are semi-private; be respectful of local spaces and traditions. Note that festival behaviour can be rowdy: public drinking, noise, and litter are common. If you live locally or have obligations (work, children, pets), consider skipping peak days or planning quieter routes.
Must-experience: a mascletá (for sound and spectacle) and the Nit del Foc (major fireworks). Visit the Ofrenda de Flores and the cremà (the final burning) at least once if you want the full traditional arc. If you prefer less chaos, pick one highlight day rather than trying to see everything.
