When to visit for peak tulips

Late April to early May is generally the safest window to see extensive tulip blooms in fields and at Keukenhof. Keukenhof ensures displays from its opening (around late March) through early May, but open-field bloom timing depends on weather and can be earlier or later. If your trip falls around April 27–30 you still have a good chance, but some fields may already be harvested.

Keukenhof vs. tulip fields

Keukenhof is a curated flower park with many varieties and reliable displays—great if you want guaranteed blooms and easy access (bus stop at the entrance). The surrounding tulip fields (Lisse, Flevoland) are working farmland: beautiful but less predictable, no formal tourist transport, and you must not enter fields without permission.

How to see the fields without a bike

You can rent a car and drive the rural roads between fields to view them from public roads and viewpoints. There is no official public transport into private fields, and cycling into fields is not allowed. Use viewpoints, road-side stops, or guided tours that respect farmers’ property.
